Hi, I’m Jack, co-founder of Home Upgrader.
Home Upgrader is designed to help with one thing: maximising the value of your home.
That value might be financial – after all, house prices are a British obsession. But value comes in different forms. Happiness, for instance. Plum paint and tartan carpets might not help your home’s sale price, but they might make you happy (or, then again, they might not). We spend 60% of our time at home, after all, and you wouldn’t sell that time for any money.
But wait, aren’t there a million websites ‘dedicated to the home’?
That’s true. And some of them are great. But, more often than not, when renovating my house, I’ve struggled to find the information I need.
I’ll give you an example. In our first house we had single glazing and rotten window frames. If you sat by the window the cold was unbearable. And it was a small house, so everywhere was by the window. We knew we needed new ones.
‘How much do double-glazed windows cost?’ I googled.
Cue a ton of search results, with each page stretching to thousands of words. So much waffle. So much generic stuff written by huge media companies, sometimes based in America. And so much that sounded like it was written by a robot. In the end, I had to talk to Anglian directly, then ignore them, then get a local guy in instead.
The whole experience was unhelpful. And that’s what Home Upgrader is trying to solve. We want to be helpful, and we want to be transparent.
Helpful means:
- Getting to the point
- Only recommending what we’d recommend to our own friends or family
- Linking to another website if they can explain it better
Transparent means:
- Citing our sources
- Admitting when it’s too complicated to say, or we don’t know
- Telling you our names
And, in the name of transparency, you might be wondering how we make money from this. Well we get paid commission if we refer you to an installer. Doesn’t that make us biased? Not really. We only recommend products and services we believe in, and suppliers we trust. And of course, this website is free to use, so you can always ignore these recommendations anyway.
How we choose to upgrade our homes is a big decision. We all have to spend wisely. Whether you’re improving or moving, we hope homeupgrader.co.uk can help.
Thanks,
Jack and Clem, Founders of Home Upgrader.
